Artwork Statement
BALANCED TOWN explores the fragile relationship between human settlement and the natural landscape through a surreal architectural composition. A small town appears to exist within a landscape that has been dramatically transformed, where winding roads, flowing waterways, cultivated terrain, and scattered homes merge beneath an immense, curved architectural structure.
The artwork presents a world in which architecture and nature are not separate entities but interconnected systems. The sweeping structure above seems to shelter, contain, and reshape the landscape below, while the winding roads and natural watercourses create a visual rhythm that connects each part of the composition. The contrasting scales evoke both harmony and tension—suggesting a settlement carefully positioned between human intervention and the forces of nature.
Created entirely with charcoal, the work emphasizes intricate linework, texture, perspective, and tonal contrast. The dense architectural patterns overhead oppose the softer textures of trees, earth, water, and vegetation below, creating a dialogue between constructed order and organic movement.
The title BALANCED TOWN reflects the central idea of the work: a hypothetical environment where civilization attempts to maintain equilibrium with its surroundings. Yet the distorted perspective leaves the viewer questioning whether this balance is truly sustainable, or merely an illusion created by the architecture itself.
